Artist Bio
Joanna is a Colombian mindfulness guide, breathwork facilitator, and contemplative artist whose work explores the liminal space between inner stillness and outer form. For many years, she walked the path of a teacher, holding space for others to breathe, to return, to remember. Photography and video became her silent companions along the way, quiet extensions of her practice.
This body of work marks the first time she fully embraces the identity of “artist”, not as a departure from her teachings, but as their natural continuation. Through sensorial storytelling, tea rituals, and meditative visuals, Joanna’s work invites others into a more tender and spacious relationship with the present moment.
She lives and creates between worlds, where slowness becomes a way of seeing, and presence, a form of art.
The Practice Behind the Lens
My work emerges from silence. It is a dialogue between breath, stillness, and what the eye can see when the mind quiets. As a mindfulness teacher, breathwork guide, and contemplative photographer, I move through the world as a listener, gathering light, shadow, and the subtleties of presence.
Each image, each sequence, is a soft contemplation—a sensory invocation born from deep personal practice. From tea ceremonies steeped in devotion to meditative walks guided by Zen wisdom, I explore the inner landscape through external form. What you will see is not just photography or film, but traces of ritual: a way of being in tender relation to the world.
This residency offers the perfect terrain to deepen this exploration. I’m drawn to spaces where art, quiet, and community meet. I offer not just images, but a living, breathing practice.
Photography
This photography series is a quiet archive of lived rituals and subtle encounters with the present moment. Each image is a meditation, an offering of stillness, intimacy, and inner listening. Rooted in mindfulness and the poetic gaze, these visual contemplations are invitations to slow down and sense the world beyond words.
Video Poetry
This is the only video piece released sofar. It’s a moving prayer, a visual poem shaped by breath, ritual, and quiet presence. Emerging from the intersection of spiritual practice and sensory exploration, this film invites a soft descent inward. It’s not meant to be watched, but received—like tea, or silence.
Why This Residency
I am drawn to the Summer Residency for the spaciousness it offers, not just in landscape, but in spirit. A space where artistic process is honored as ritual, and where silence, nature, and shared inquiry become part of the creative fabric.
My work lives at the intersection of image, presence, and inner exploration. I don't separate my artistic practice from my spiritual one, they inform and nourish each other. Through photography, video, tea rituals, and meditative practices, I create sensorial offerings that invite others into stillness, slowness, and intimacy with the present moment.
This residency feels like fertile soil for deepening my exploration. I imagine bringing daily tea ceremonies, breath-led visual walks, or soft screenings of my video contemplations into the communal rhythm. I hope to both receive and offer: to be shaped by the creative ecologies of others, and to contribute the quietude and poetic sensibility that guide my work.
Here, I sense the possibility of not only making, but becoming.
