Editor & Publisher
I’ve had the opportunity to work not only on my own project, but also translate editorial ideas into reality for other brands in print and online. Bellow you’ll see some examples.
Online Examples
Hayo Online
An indie magazine for creative minds focused on travel, arts, culture, and curiosities. I created this magazine from scratch, being the creative director and Editor-in-Chief of it. It started as an online content magazine which evolved into print editorial. Strategy, calendars and outreach were all done by me.
Huffington Post
As a travel writer, I was a regular contributor to Huffington Post, and created content related to the travel experiences I was invited to by different DMOs.
Daily Hive
I co-created an event in Vancouver called Art Rapture which looked to provide collectors quality fine art with a core focus on urban, pop and contemporary art, incentivizing the growth of Vancouver’s art scene. For this, I created a series of editorials to talk about art, artists, and the disruption in the art scene the city needed.
Hayo Magazine
An indie magazine for creative minds focused on travel, arts, culture, and curiosities. This was my main project and entrepreneurial start for almost 5 years while I lived in Vancouver, Canada. Hayo won two awards as “Best Nich Magazine in Canada” in 2017 and 2018 when we released our last print.
We launched the first print issue of Hayo in 2016 and published an issue per year. We gathered all kinds of stories to explore the themes of each issue from various vantage points—from Canada to Kenya, from Germany to Colombia—we brought writers, photographers, illustrators, artists, editors, designers, to work together.
As the Editor in Chief, I was in charge of defining the theme and creative direction of the each issue, as well as selecting and outsourcing the photographers, illustrators and artists to participate. I worked closely with the managing editor to give direction to the writers, and with the art director to give structure and style to the magazine’s look and feel. From begining to end, thinking, producing, and directing this magazine was my life.
Hayo No. 1: South
In this issue we wanted to explore different meanings of the word “south.” We pursued and chose stories that evoke different ways of seeing and feeling south. Flip through its pages, submerge yourself in the different worlds we have brought to you—from Japan to Italy, Turkey to Australia—and get inspired to go and find your own south.
Hayo No. 2: East
The stories that are part of this second issue of Hayo, No. 2: East, explore how our expectations compare to reality, and also show how we can be surprised by the close connections we can create in a place we have never experienced before. When we travel, we want to be exposed to new and interesting experiences—but we also look for the things that we can identify with. We hope this issue reminds you of your own east or invites you to discover one.
Hayo No. 3: North
True north: an internal compass that guides us through life and allows us to be our fullest selves at the deepest level. We have gathered all kinds of stories to explore the theme of north from various vantage points—from Canada to Kenya, from Germany to Colombia—and in each of these stories, you’ll find an underlying quest to find, define or understand home and, ultimately, to discover and experience a sense of belonging.
CDMX CAPITAL CULTURAL DE AMÉRICA BOOK
MEXICO CITY
In partnership with Mexican media conglomerate Chilango, I did the creative direction and general production of the annual book for the Tourism Board of Mexico City. I hired Sofía Arredondo as the editor and Mariana Pajón as Lead Designer.
This book is a collection of the best things in the city to experience, see, visit, eat, and know about. We hired multiple contributors for photography, illustration, and writing to collaborate in this edition that has +200 full-color pages, hardcover, matte finish paper, and embossing.
